The word “apnea” , also known as freediving, comes from the Greek word *ápnoia* and means “without breathing.”
As for our activity, we define freediving as the voluntary suspension of pulmonary ventilation for a certain period of time, during which we carry out different sports or leisure activities, generally while remaining submerged.
It is a unique sport that involves technical learning, physical preparation, and, to a great extent, controlling the relaxation of both body and mind. All of this, together with instinct and the natural abilities that humans possess for breath-hold diving, offers practitioners the following possibilities and benefits:
